Sophie is the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority’s (FRWA) ambassador for the introduction of fortnightly kerbside collection and the environmental outcomes it delivers.
The City of Victor Harbor will move to fortnightly kerbside collection of all three waste types from 1 July 2019, aiming to -:
- increase kerbside recycling capacity to increase resource recovery;
- respond to community requests for more recycling capacity;
- reduce the waste which goes to landfill – reducing landfill costs and improving outcomes for the environment and mitigating future cost increases in waste disposal.
As a part of the support to the community in the transition to fortnightly kerbside collection, Council and FRWA are making kitchen caddy kits (kitchen caddy and 1 roll of compostable bags), compost bins and worm farms available at a 50% discount to City of Victor Harbor ratepayers and residents. Compost equipment can be purchased from Council offices and the FRWA Waste and Recycling Depot, Goolwa. This subsidy is made possible through a Food Waste Incentives grant from Green Industries SA
