CAUTION
If bins weigh in excess of 75 kilograms or, in the opinion of the driver, waste is not contained in a reasonable manner, or is of an inappropriate nature, the driver is authorised to decline collection of the waste.
If the driver believes that the condition of the bin is inadmissible for collection, the driver is authorised to decline collection of the waste.
Whenever a bin is not collected because of not meeting these standards, the driver will leave an appropriate notice in the resident’s mail box, or on the bin.

General waste guidelines

HOUSEHOLD WASTE COLLECTION
Household waste (Municipal Solid Waste - MSW) will be collected in 140-litre bins (blue lid for Alexandrina and City of Victor Harbor; green lid for Yankalilla; and a red lid on Kangaroo Island).
FRWA will collect one (1) mobile garbage bin (140 litre MGB with a blue, green or red lid depending on your area) from each rateable property on a weekly basis.
Only household waste that cannot be recycled should be placed in this bin. The contents of this bin are disposed of to landfill.

CO-MINGLED RECYCLABLES COLLECTION
Residents will need to have a 240-litre yellow lid bin for this service, and currently collection is 4 weekly on the day of your household waste collection.

GREEN WASTE COLLECTION
Approximately one third of all household waste each week is green organic material. When disposed of in landfill, green organics may produce harmful gases and leachate as they break down. When composted correctly, green organics can be converted into a high-quality soil product. FRWA’s Green Organics for Recycling program is aimed at reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and to recycle an environmentally valuable resource.
Due to their limited generation of green organic material, businesses and apartments do not generally receive a green organics bin. However, if you are a business or apartment resident, and you believe that you have the demand for a green organics bin, please contact FRWA on 8555 7260.
Rural and rural residential households, otherwise known as "rural", do not receive a green organics bin due to the increased potential for composting green organic material in their gardens.
Your bin for green organics bin will be emptied every four weeks on the same day as your household waste.

Green organics bins will be audited for contamination from time to time. If there are contaminants found in your bin, it will be identified with a "bin problem" sticker, and your bin will not be collected for green organics recycling.
PLEASE NOTE: FRWA will not be able to continue to service green organics bins that are regularly contaminated.
